The CSA sticker inside each helmet shows the expiry date
The Brockville Winter Classic is calling on the community to donate gently used hockey gear through its Gear Up Equipment Exchange program. Organizers say they are especially in need of skates, gloves, sticks, helmets and goalie equipment to help local players get on the ice this season.
Donations can be dropped off at Career Services of Brockville or Brent Scott Insurance. A second drop-off day is expected soon.
But there’s an important warning for parents: more than 90 per cent of donated helmets were expired and no longer meet CSA safety standards. Organizers urge families to check the CSA sticker inside each helmet, which shows the expiry date. Most helmets expire five to seven years after they’re made.
“Safety always comes first,” the group said in a statement.
All gear helps lower the cost for families and supports kids who want to play. The Winter Classic thanks the public for helping grow community hockey.
