A Brockville towing company and a Maitland man are facing charges following an Ontario Provincial Police investigation into the handling of cargo and towing services after a collision.
The investigation began after a commercial delivery truck carrying food crashed on the eastbound Highway 401 off-ramp at North Augusta Road in Brockville on March 18.
Police say a towing company attended the scene and removed cargo from the truck before taking the vehicle away. The Leeds County OPP investigated allegations that the contents of the truck were not returned to the lawful owner.
The investigation was later led by the OPP Highway Safety Division in East Region with help from the Leeds County OPP.
Dylan Driscoll, 30, of Maitland, and John Campbell’s Towing have been charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000.
The towing company also faces charges under the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act.
The accused are scheduled to appear in Brockville court on Oct. 9.
