Residents are reminded to consider whether a situation requires an immediate emergency response before dialing 9-1-1
The Brockville Fire Department is reminding residents that 9-1-1 should only be used for emergencies.
Fire Chief Melanie Jones explained why people should avoid calling 9-1-1 for non-emergency situations.
Jones also noted some examples of situations that do not require a 9-1-1 call.
Things like noise complaints, minor inconveniences and general inquiries should also not be directed to 9-1-1. Instead, residents should contact the appropriate non-emergency line or local services for assistance.
Jones also explained when calling 9-1-1 is the right choice.
Other examples of emergencies that require a 9-1-1 call include someone having a heart attack, choking, or a home invasion.
