15 charges were laid
Leeds OPP, along with Ontario Ministry of Transportation officials and OPP’s RIDE team, cracked down on commercial drivers near Gananoque on July 24.
The joint operation focused on truckers who failed to stop at the Gananoque Truck Inspection Station. Officers tracked several commercial vehicles using secondary roads to avoid inspection. Those vehicles were escorted back for review.
More than a dozen inspections were conducted. Six of those involved vehicles that attempted to bypass the station. In total, 15 charges were laid, and four commercial trucks were taken out of service due to safety concerns.
One driver, a 27-year-old from Woodstock, was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance—an opioid—under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He also faces several traffic-related offences.
Police are reminding all drivers that road safety is a shared responsibility. Dangerous or erratic driving should be reported to OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
