St. Lawrence river tragedy on July 4th
A young child has died after being found unresponsive in the St. Lawrence River near Wolfe Island.
Leeds County OPP say they were called to the area of Stoney Point Lane around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 4. A toddler had been pulled from the water, and both family members and emergency crews tried to save the child.
The toddler was rushed to a regional trauma centre but was later pronounced dead.
The OPP say the child’s name will not be released out of respect for the family's privacy.
Investigators have not said how long the child was in the water or how the incident happened.
Police continue to look into the circumstances and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
