Brockville drivers may soon get a break from months of traffic headaches. The William Street overpass, closed since February, is expected to reopen by Labour Day, according to city officials.
The closure forced drivers to take detours across railroad tracks or the North Augusta Road overpass. This caused major backups, especially on Perth Street, where traffic increased and train crossings led to long delays.
William Street was an important north-south route for the city’s west end, and its closure has had a big impact on daily commutes.
The good news? The City of Brockville says the $3,079,908 project is ahead of schedule. During a recent council meeting, Councillor Jane Fullarton said she is hopeful things will continue to go well.
Once complete, the overpass will bring much-needed traffic relief and reconnect a key route for local drivers just in time for the fall.
