Nerves rattled, no one hurt
Firefighters in Brockville rushed to a home downtown Wednesday after a garage fire sent thick smoke through the house. Brockville Fire Dispatch received several 9-1-1 calls around 2:40 p.m., reporting flames in an attached garage.
Fire crews arrived to find the garage fully engulfed, with smoke spreading inside the home. The residents, who had smelled something burning, discovered smoke and fire inside their car before escaping safely.
Firefighters managed to contain most of the damage to the garage, though some fire spread into the kitchen. The blaze was declared under control by 3:57 p.m. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Officials are reminding residents to test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and to have a fire escape plan in place.
