They're trying to do good
The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville may need to spend another $900,000 to finish the supportive cabins project for people without housing.
The Recorder and Times reports the Pathway Supportive Cabins Program, located on County Road 2 in Brockville, went $900,000 over budget due to site challenges.
So far, $1.08 million has been spent. Total costs are now nearly $2 million.
The cabins house 23 people, with two more moving in soon. Another 115 people are on the waitlist.
The committee recommends using the community housing amortization reserve and paying the money back over 10 years.
Brockville Mayor Matt Wren supported the project but questioned the $220,000 cost of an amenities trailer.
The John Howard Society, which runs the cabins, said the project is already helping people. One resident now has a job and secure housing.
Counties council will vote on the extra money, possibly at its April 24 meeting.
