She’s 2025 Ontario Senior of the Year — and her volunteer list will amaze you

The award celebrates seniors over 65 who continue to make a meaningful difference in their communities

The Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley has honoured Sylvia Foxton with the 2025 Ontario Senior of the Year Award. Mayor Brant Burrow presented the award on behalf of the township and the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.

The provincial award celebrates seniors over 65 who continue to make a meaningful difference in their communities. Sylvia Foxton has done exactly that, volunteering in the Village of Lyn and surrounding area for more than 40 years.

Foxton’s service includes supporting schools, youth sports, festivals, beautification projects, and health care. She has been involved with groups like Lyn Tincap Public School, the Lyn Girl Guides, Upper Canada Swim Club, Christ United Church, Brockville General Hospital, and several local sports teams.

She also played a key role in community events like Lyn Days and the village’s 225th anniversary. Her volunteer efforts have touched nearly every part of local life — and continue to inspire.
