Potential wind gusts of up to 90km/h
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Brockville and Prescott this afternoon and early evening. Environment Canada says conditions could lead to dangerous storms with wind gusts up to 90 km/h and hail up to 2 cm in size.
Forecasters say isolated thunderstorms are likely to develop later today and move south of the area by early evening. Emergency officials are urging people to take cover if threatening weather approaches.
Strong winds can break tree branches, damage buildings, and flip vehicles. Large hail can cause serious damage and injury.
“When thunder roars, go indoors,” warns Emergency Management Ontario, reminding residents that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when weather conditions may lead to damaging storms.
Residents are advised to monitor updates from Environment Canada and report severe weather by emailing ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or posting on X with #ONStorm.
