Their first preseason game is September 21st in Ottawa
The Ottawa Senators are gearing up for a major milestone this year. The 30th anniversary of their first game on Oct. 8th, 1996.
President and CEO Cyril Leeder breaks down what will be a special weekend in January, which marks the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Tire Centre.
Fans can expect tributes, entertainment, and special appearances, making it one of the biggest weekends of the season.
Leeder says brighter days are ahead for the franchise and its fans as the NHL season approaches.
He spoke about what fans can look forward to.
To this day, Leeder feels very proud of what he and a group of fellow Brockvillians led by Bruce Firestone, all did in order to return the team back to Ottawa in December of 1990.
Leeder is excited for the next 30 years, which will include a new downtown arena at LeBreton Flats.
He understands why people in Brockville like the convenience of the quick drive along the 416 to their current arena in Kanata, but says the new arena will be more central to the team's fan base.
The Sens' season opens Oct. 9 in Tampa.
