Here’s how to stay safe
A heat warning remains in effect for the South East Health Unit region, with temperatures expected to soar through at least Wednesday, July 16.
Environment Canada warns of daytime highs over 31°C and humidex values near 40°C. The health unit urges residents to stay cool, hydrated, and indoors whenever possible.
Heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke can happen quickly. Seek medical help if symptoms like nausea, dizziness, rapid breathing, confusion, or fever appear.
Seniors, young children, outdoor workers, and those without proper housing are most at risk.
Dr. Linna Li, Deputy Medical Officer of Health, reminds residents to drink water regularly, avoid caffeine, wear light clothing, and visit splash pads or air-conditioned spaces. Never leave pets or people in parked cars.
More tips are available at unlockfood.ca and the health unit’s website, healthunit.org.
