One in seven households in Leeds and Grenville facing food insecurity, local food bank warns

South Grenville Food Bank

Food insecurity is on the rise across Ontario, and the issue is hitting especially hard in Leeds and Grenville.

The South Grenville Food Bank is sounding the alarm about the growing need in local communities, and Bonnie Cougler is underscoring that message with a shocking fact.

Bonnie Cougler of the South Grenville Food Bank says one in seven households in Leeds and Grenville are food insecure.

The food bank has been serving the area since 2002, supporting families in Augusta, Edwardsburgh/Cardinal, and Prescott.

It operates with the help of volunteers, donors, grants, and community partners.

Programs include food hampers, fresh produce options, children’s snack packs, and special support for babies and seniors.

The food bank also offers initiatives like “Plant a Row / Grow a Row” to encourage gardeners to donate fresh food.
