MP Barrett warns of inflation risk and rising deficit after massive 2025 federal budget revealed

The government’s “Canada Strong” plan focuses on infrastructure, clean energy, and innovation, while cutting 40,000 public service positions over the next few years

Leeds–Grenville–Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett is raising concerns about the federal government’s 2025 budget, announced November 4, which includes $141 billion in new spending over five years and a projected $78 billion deficit.

He explained where he stands following the announcement.

Barrett said the scale of the new spending will add more pressure to inflation, making life even more expensive for Canadians.

He outlined what he has been advocating for locally and said he will continue to stand up for taxpayers in his riding.

Barrett also noted when the key confidence vote on the budget will take place — a vote that could trigger a federal election if it fails.
