Prescott’s Leo Boivin Community Centre needs major repairs, but the town plans to keep it open during most of the work. The 59-year-old building was once Prescott’s main rink before the Alaine Chartrand Community Centre opened in 2023. It now hosts sports like basketball and pickleball, along with events and concerts.
In 2018, the Leo Boivin Centre was closed after an ammonia leak. A new engineering report says the building can last another 15 to 25 years if urgent repairs are made — or just 5 to 10 years if they’re not.
Prescott’s director of operations, Matt Locke, presented the findings to council. Some areas will close, including the storage room, mezzanine, and south stairway.
Big fixes include electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work. Smaller jobs like sealing windows may be done by staff. Council will discuss the costs and decide next steps this fall.
