The community of Maitland is reeling after Invista announced it will close its local plant in the coming months, cutting about 100 jobs.
The facility, owned by Koch Industries, is one of Augusta Township’s largest employers.
The company says the closure is due to market conditions, not employee performance.
Production of Dytek A will move to the company’s Victoria, Texas site.
Augusta Township Deputy Mayor Adrian Wynands warned the impact may go beyond the 100 direct jobs.
MP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands-Rideau Lakes Michael Barrett called the news “devastating.”
He discussed what the government must do to prevent future closures.
Barrett explained his standpoint.
He said Canada must remain a place worth investing in.
The closure process could take up to two years.
Augusta Township says it is committed to supporting residents and attracting new opportunities.
