The motion is for taxpayers to receive the money within 100 days
Local MP Michael Barrett says he used Opposition Day to table a motion in the House of Commons dealing with accountability.
Barrett says the motion asks the government to return the money to the taxpayers within 100 days.
The motion, the first with Barrett's name attached to it, passed the house with all opposition parties voting together.
The MP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands & Rideau Lakes says it means the government is going to have to go back to the contractors and recoup any money for projects that weren't completed or even started.
Ultimately though, Barrett says the government has a decision to make.
Barrett says the motion isn't just about this one occurrence of taxpayer dollars being mis-spent.
He hopes the motion will serve as a message to anyone getting paid in tax payers dollars that there's an extremely high standard to be met, and real outcomes must be achieved that make life better for Canadians.
