Minister Sarkaria said the technology will help keep Ontario highways safer for everyone
Ontario’s Transportation Minister Prabmeet Singh Sarkaria and Leeds–Grenville–Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark visited the Gananoque Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facility this week to highlight a major safety upgrade.
The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has introduced new mobile x-ray scanner technology at the facility. It is the first time this technology is being used by MTO enforcement officers anywhere in Ontario.
The state-of-the-art scanners allow officers to see inside commercial trucks without opening them. This helps detect hidden threats, unsafe cargo, or violations — all without slowing down traffic too much.
Minister Sarkaria said the technology will help keep Ontario highways safer for everyone. MPP Clark added that Gananoque is leading the way in making roads safer for both drivers and communities.
The government says more scanners could be used across the province in the future, depending on the results seen in Gananoque.
