Driver found slumped over wheel shocks police during surprise impaired driving arrest

The 32-year-old is now charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams

Police say a 32-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after officers found him slumped over the wheel of a car on William Street on the afternoon of Nov. 9. The call came in around 3:50 p.m., prompting officers to check on the driver’s wellbeing.

When police approached the vehicle, they spoke with the man and decided there were enough signs of impairment to demand an alcohol screening test. According to investigators, the driver refused to cooperate at first, leading officers to place him under arrest.

He was taken to the police station, where he provided breath samples. Police say the results confirmed he was over the legal alcohol limit. His vehicle was immediately impounded and his licence suspended under provincial impaired driving laws.
