Tuesday morning
A driver from the Toronto area has been charged with stunt driving after being caught speeding on Highway 401 near Lansdowne Tuesday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police say two cars were seen racing in the eastbound lanes just before 9 a.m. Tuesday. A Leeds County OPP officer stopped one of the vehicles. The second car did not stop, and police are still looking for it.
The driver who was stopped was clocked at 186 km/h. That’s well above the posted speed limit and meets the threshold for a stunt driving charge in Ontario.
As a result, the driver’s vehicle has been impounded for 14 days. Their licence is suspended for 30 days. The person is also required to appear in court, where they could face more penalties.
Four other people were in the car at the time. They were not charged and were placed in a taxi.
