The now 28-bed overnight shelter for homeless people could close by Dec. 31
The Brockville Housing Partnership is asking the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville to reconsider its decision to end funding for the Co-Operative Care Centre.
The now 28-bed overnight shelter for homeless people could close by Dec. 31.
Officials say the facility’s service model isn’t financially viable, but organizers hope to present updated figures next month.
CCC Director, Amber Gilmour says they're more than just a place to sleep.
In the last two weeks, the centre has fed 700 people, 210 had showers, and 387 found safe shelter - but 24 were turned away due to limited space. The warming centre urges community support to ensure everyone in need has a meal, a bed, and a chance to rest safely.
Gilmour disputes the county report that led to the decision, calling it inaccurate.
Gilmour encourages the community to sign and share a petition supporting the CCC. No monetary donations are required as those go straight to change.org rather than the centre itself.
