City Council reports strong surplus for 2025, despite some deficits

Additional surpluses from the water and wastewater departments contributed to the total

Brockville’s City Council has revealed strong financial results for 2025, projecting a large surplus by the end of the year.

Mayor Matt Wren highlighted the expected surplus amount.

The report, covering the first nine months of 2025, shows a surplus of $348,929, with the majority of savings coming from staff vacancies, which saved the city about $200,000.

However, deficits at the Brockville Police Service and shared municipal services reduced the overall surplus to $240,134.

Additional surpluses from the water and wastewater departments contributed to the total.

The water department expects a surplus of $76,518, while wastewater is projected to finish with $209,988.

Wren also explained plans to strengthen the bylaw department after receiving feedback from residents.

The financial snapshot will be reviewed by the general committee today.
