Brockville subdivision fight heats up as council delays decision on Bridlewood expansion

Full council is set to vote on the recommendation next week

Brockville’s planning committee is recommending council delay a decision on expanding the Bridlewood subdivision until the developer addresses a list of concerns.

The proposal would extend Bridlewood Drive to Centennial Road and add 14 semi-detached homes, all municipally serviced. The full council is set to vote on the recommendation next Tuesday, though the matter may return in October or November.

At a July 2 public meeting, residents warned the extension could turn Bridlewood into a dangerous through street, raising traffic and safety worries. City staff have since called for a redesign to address public feedback, conservation authority requirements, and technical issues.

Needed changes include new stop signs, a 40 km/h speed limit, more details on sidewalks, and a stormwater management plan. Concerns have also been raised about the possible need for a costly retention pond.

The debate comes as Brockville faces a housing boom and provincial pressure to increase housing supply.
