Public Works is one bright spot
The City of Brockville is projecting a year-end deficit of $223,625 across its departments, according to a new budget report reviewed by council’s general committee on Tuesday.
The biggest shortfall is in corporate finance, with a $192,065 gap. That includes $150,130 in lower-than-expected revenues from property tax interest and penalties.
The Brockville Arts Centre is short $20,000, due in part to $70,000 in extra wages for part-time staff after fewer volunteers were available. Some of that cost is balanced by savings in other areas.
The facilities division is also projecting a $34,050 deficit, including $12,000 in lost lease revenue and added repair costs.
Public Works is one bright spot, with a $69,000 surplus from lower snow removal costs. The wastewater department is also projecting a $104,025 surplus.
Meanwhile, the water department is short $13,600, and the police service is running a $3,696 deficit.
Figures are current to May 31 and may change.
