Council says keeping Brockville’s unique character is a top priority
Brockville City Council is taking steps to protect key heritage buildings like the public library, arts centre and Fire Station #1.
Council received a report outlining how heritage designation works, how recent changes to Ontario's laws affect it, and addressed common concerns — especially around insurance.
They’ve now asked the Municipal Heritage Committee to recommend which City-owned buildings should be protected.
Staff will also return in September with more details on creating Heritage Conservation Districts.
Protecting historic sites helps Brockville stay beautiful and boosts quality of life, the report said.
Heritage designations are expected to be considered by Council later this summer, with the library, arts centre and fire station likely on the list.
