Fewer Canadians are heading to the U.S. this spring, and it’s showing at the border.
New data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection shows a sharp drop in crossings at Ogdensburg. Vehicle traffic fell nearly 25 per cent in March compared to March 2024. People crossing the Ogdensburg-Prescott Bridge dropped more than 33 per cent.
When compared to the 12-month average before March 2025, vehicles crossing into the U.S. dropped by 63 per cent, and the number of people fell by nearly 47 per cent.
Local businesses in Brockville are noticing a positive side—more residents are shopping locally and supporting Canadian products.
But the drop in cross-border traffic is also being felt in upstate New York. Restaurants like Buster’s in Ogdensburg report fewer Canadian customers.
With growing political tensions, more Canadians may choose to stay north of the border this summer, deepening the tensions between the two countries.
