Five candidates confirmed in local federal race and one of them wants to take down a seven-year MP

It's official: Voters in Leeds–Grenville–Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes now know who will be on the ballot for the April 28 federal election.

Five candidates have been confirmed. Michael Barrett, the current MP, is running again for the Conservative Party after nearly seven years in office.

Lorna Jean Edmonds is representing the Liberals. She previously ran in the provincial election and earned about 27 per cent of the vote.

The NDP’s candidate is 25-year-old Paul Lancione, a first-time hopeful with a background in English literature and writing.

Randi Ramdeen is running for the Green Party. She has two years of experience as a political organizer and campaign manager.

The People’s Party of Canada is represented by Hailey Simpson, a real estate professional and youth wing president.

Advance voting runs from April 18 to 21.

We will have stories offering each candidate's perspective on a variety of issues until Election Day.
