A British Columbia man is facing several charges after Ontario Provincial Police stopped a smoking transport truck on Highway 401 near Brockville.
The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. yesterday (Sep. 25) when an OPP Highway Safety Division officer saw the truck giving off excessive smoke. The vehicle was pulled over, and suspected drugs were seen inside the cabin.
Police called in a drug recognition expert, officers from the Leeds County detachment, and the Ministry of Transportation. Officers seized between 300 and 400 capsules of suspected drugs.
The 42-year-old driver was charged with impaired driving (alcohol and drugs), refusing to comply with a demand, two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance, driving a commercial vehicle with a major defect, and producing unreasonable smoke.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Brockville. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and the truck impounded for seven.
